A Single-Phase Symmetrical Multilevel Inverter fed Induction Motor Pump system for Irrigation Applications : Symmetrical MLI for Irrigation Applications
A thorough analysis of modulation techniques for a Multilevel Inverter-fed Induction Motor water pumping system is crucial for optimizing performance and reliability. In this study, key factors such as harmonic content of output power, switching frequency, and system complexity are carefully evaluated to determine the most suitable modulation technique. The existing literature highlights various approaches to reducing harmonic distortion and enhancing inverter performance, which informed the selection process in this work. The proposed system architecture effectively minimizes the number of switching devices, circuit losses, voltage stress, mounting space, and overall inverter costs, aligning with the advancements presented in earlier studies on inverter efficiency and cost-reduction strategies. The Phase Disposition Level Shift (PDLS) method is employed to generate triggering impulses for the switching devices, a widely recognized approach in recent research for achieving balanced voltage levels and improved control.Furthermore, the pump design is tailored for irrigation land spanning 50 acres, offering a practical application of the system. The experimental setup validates the inverter's operational performance, and the results corroborate the findings from prior research on multilevel inverters in water pumping applications. The outcomes of this study reinforce the potential of the proposed system to enhance efficiency while addressing the challenges identified in the literature.
