Effect of Ujjayi Pranayama on Thyroid Profile and Body Mass Index of Patients with Hypothyroidism

Enhancing thyroid function may be possible with Ujjayi pranayama practice. Aim: The current study determines to estimate the impact of Ujjain pranayama on body mass index and thyroid profile. Setting and Design: Thirty hypothyroid patients from the primary health centre participated in the study, which used an experimental research approach. Methods and Materials: After explaining the goal of the study to the participants, informed consent was acquired. Before beginning and after the four-week ujjayi pranayama intervention, measurements of the thyroid profile and body mass index were taken. The gathered data was formatted in Microsoft Excel for analysis. Statistical analysis used: Using the SPSS 16 version of the software, both expressive and inferential statistical approaches were applied to the data analysis. Results: The patients' mean age among the participants was 49 ± 3.62, with 93% of the participants being female. In comparison to the pre-test evaluation, there was a substantial (p<0.001) decrease in the triiodothyronine and thyroxine scores, as well as a significant (p<0.001) reduction in the thyroid stimulating hormone and body mass index scores. Conclusion: Rendering to the consequences of the current study, Ujjain pranayama reduces body mass index and helps bring about desired changes in the thyroid profile within the therapeutic range.
