Mathematical Modeling and Analysis of Single and Three-phase Synchronous Buck Converter for EV Battery Charging Applications

A comprehensive mathematical model and simulation-based analysis of single and three-phase interleaved synchronous buck converters specifically designed for electric vehicle (EV) battery charging applications is presented in this study. The analysis considers significant parasitic elements of the converter to accurately validate system behavior and performance in practical scenarios. The converter is modeled using the state-space technique to obtain the desired transfer functions, and frequency domain analysis is carried out using Bode plots to validate system stability. A cascaded dual-loop control strategy is implemented to regulate the output voltage. A MATLAB/Simulink model of the system is developed to validate transient and steady-state responses. Comparative simulation analysis is performed to assess key performance metrics, showcasing the effectiveness of the proposed compensation technique in both single and three-phase buck converters in EV battery chargers.
