Omnidirectional Vision Based Flapping Height Measurement of Helicopter Rotor Blade

This paper presents a novel measurement method of helicopter rotor blade flapping height, which takes catadioptric images as a principal sensor. Lifting the restrictions of sensor installation precision, this method applies with good flexibility. The measurement procedure starts from camera calibration, and achieves measuring the flapping height differences with high precision by sensing the three-dimensional information of calibration pattern corner points. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel measurement method of helicopter rotor blade flapping height, which takes catadioptric images as a principal sensor. Lifting the restrictions of sensor installation precision, this method applies with good flexibility. The measurement procedure starts from camera calibration, and achieves measuring the flapping height differences with high precision by sensing the three-dimensional information of calibration pattern corner points. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
