Lean Construction in Action: Examining Practices in UAE Firms

This study examines the lean practices (LPs) currently implemented by construction firms in the UAE, analyzing variations in their implementation frequency and identifying differences between small-medium firms (SMFs) and large construction firms. Data were collected from 257 construction firms through a structured questionnaire, revealing that 20 LPs are being applied across the industry, with a strong focus on minimizing waste, organizing procedures, and prioritizing accuracy and quality. The findings highlight significant disparities in adopting specific LPs between SMFs and large firms, particularly in areas such as continuous employee training, inventory management, technological advancements, and employee reward systems. These findings and their implications are expected to guide project managers in implementing LPs to enhance construction efficiency, reduce waste, and improve project delivery in UAE construction firms and other firms operating in similar environments.
