Performance Comparison of PI and Fuzzy Logic Controllers for Speed Control of Permanent Magnet Sensorless Brushless DC Motors
PMBLDC Motors are a commercial example due to the strong power generated by the three-phase semiconductor bridge. This paper underscores the critical role of rotor position sensors in ensuring accurate commutation, facilitating the sequential activation of power devices for optimal motor operation. Conventionally, speed control in PMBLDC motors relies on proportional-integral (PI) controllers, which, while effective under ideal conditions, struggle with nonlinearities, disturbances, and parameter variations due to their reliance on linear models. To address these challenges, this research proposes a FLC for BLDC speed regulation. Leveraging its inherent ability to handle nonlinearities and uncertainties, the FLC offers improved dynamic response, robustness against disturbances, and adaptability to varying operating conditions compared to PI controllers. Drawing parallels from conventional Proportional-Integral Controllers (PIC), the FLC design enhances speed response quality, optimizing motor performance. MATLAB simulations are conducted to evaluate and compare the performance of PMBLDC drives under PI and Fuzzy Logic control schemes, demonstrating the FLC's efficacy in achieving superior speed control and stability across a wide range of operating scenarios. This study contributes valuable insights into advancing motor control technologies, particularly in enhancing the efficiency and reliability of PMBLDC motors in industrial applications.
