Improving the Load Frequency Control of a Renewable Energy Penetrated Dual Area Power System with a 2DOFPID Controller
This paper implemented the territory control strategy to obtain an improvement in the load frequency control (LFC) performance of a dual area renewable energy power system (DAREPS). Initially, the DAREPS is laid with 10% step load disturbance (SLD), and the system behavior is studied under the supervision of the water cycle algorithm (WCA)-based two-degree-of-freedom proportional-integral-derivative (2DOFPID) controller. The performance efficacy of the 2DOFPID controller at the secondary level is demonstrated with the other available controllers. However, the DAREPS is considered with realistic constraints to get the investigation closer to the practical environment. Later, the DAREPS behavior is studied with the integration of the superconducting magnetic energy storage devices (SMES) in the control regions and the placement of the unified power flow controller (UPFC) with the tie-line. Simulation analysis revealed the enrichment in DAREPS performance with the implementation of the SMES-UPFC strategy.
