Thermal Analysis of Lithium-ion battery for Electric Vehicle Application
The thermal behavior of energy storage systems, mainly lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, is vital for electric vehicle (EV) applications. This study provides a thermal analysis of Li-ion batteries at 0°C, 25°C, 50°C, and 75°C, focusing on both core and surface temperatures to underscore the importance of effective thermal management. Using a Matlab/Simulink model, the temperature change concerning the core and surface was calculated. The results show that the core heats up more than the surface due to internal reactions and energy losses, creating a temperature gradient. If the core temperature exceeds safe limits, it can result in risks like thermal runaway. These findings emphasize the need for advanced thermal management systems specifically designed for Li-ion batteries in EVs.
