Improve System Voltage Stability and Reduction in Losses with Optimal Placement of DG

Growing load demand on the distribution system draws focus to the active distribution system. in the active distribution system distribution generation (DG) is emerging as a viable alternative to the increasingly depleting traditional energy supplies. With the use of Distributed Generation in a distribution system has a significant effect to reduce the line loss and improvement in the voltage profile. This work proposes an approach to optimize the voltage profile and reduce overall line loss in the distribution system by optimally placement and size of distributed generator. The optimization issue is stated by considering the line losses and voltage profile of the distribution system. The utilization of a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based methodology is used to ascertain the most effective solution. Additionally, the backward forward load flow technique is employed to study the power flow in a distribution system. The proposed method is evaluated on an IEEE-12 bus radial distribution system, and the simulation results are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the recommended approach.
