Simplifying and Enhancing Graph Convolutional Networks for Recommendation Systems
The efficacy of collaborative filtering in recommendation systems is undisputed, with the Neural Graph Collaborative Filtering (NGCF) model showing promise in capturing intricate user-item relationships. However, NGCF’s complex operations from Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs), such as feature transformation and non-linear activation, raise efficiency concerns. The EfficientGCN model addresses these by streamlining NGCF, retaining only the essential neighborhood aggregation component. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets reveal that EfficientGCN significantly reduces computational overhead while improving recommendation accuracy, outperforming NGCF. This research highlights the importance of judicious model design, showing that simplicity and efficiency can lead to superior performance and future advancements in graph-based collaborative filtering.
