Assessing Computer-Based Clinical Decision Support in Healthcare: Research-in-Progress Paper

In healthcare, the integration of Computer-Based Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) is increasingly recognized as a critical factor in improving clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. However, the successful implementation of CDSS is often hindered by challenges related to system quality, service quality, and integration into clinical workflows. This study investigates the role of Computer-based CDSS affects overall healthcare delivery, including improvements in processes, patient outcomes, and integration within the healthcare system within the specific context of hospitals and clinics in Ghana. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to explore the perceptions and experiences of healthcare providers and patients using CDSS. The DeLone & McLean Information Systems Success Model serves as the theoretical framework, with a focus on extending the constructs of System Quality and Service Quality to encompass factors such as interoperability, clinical workflow integration, data security, and organizational support. As a work in progress, this study is expected to contribute to both the theoretical understanding and practical application of CDSS in healthcare. The preliminary findings aims to provide new insights into how CDSS can be optimized to enhance clinical decision-making processes and improve healthcare delivery in Ghana. The findings will inform healthcare practitioners and policymakers about best practices for implementing and utilizing CDSS, with the goal of advancing the quality of care and patient outcomes.
