Abnormal motion-triggered field of view restriction as a tool to alleviate symptoms of Cybersickness
Adjusting the field of view is an effective way to reduce the symptoms of cybersickness. In virtual environments, discomfort symptoms are alleviated by limiting the amount of visual information generated by motion. However, frequent changes in the field of view during task completion can hinder the user's task execution and immersion experience. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness and impact of a field of view restrictor, triggered only by abnormal motion, on alleviating CS and maintaining immersion. Compared with previous methods, the field of view restriction triggered by abnormal motion has a significant effect on alleviating CS symptoms while maintaining immersion.
