The Mango Volume and Inventory System (MaVIS)

The National Mango Board (NMB) as a national promotion and research organization implements strategically tools that support its mission, which is to increase the consumption of mangos in the United State (US). Collecting all the volume information provided by the different industry members (producers, packers, and importers) and making them available in one place will allow for a complete picture of the mango movement daily. In doing so, the industry is able to prevent apparent discrepancies that could have arisen otherwise. This is precisely why the NMB has developed an online information system (database), to record and report detailed and accumulated information on mango production and import volumes and inventories in the US. This inventory system: Mango Volume and Inventory System (MaVIS) is intended to: provide service to stakeholders (suppliers and marketers) that will allow them to improve mango market response times by reacting faster and more accurately to changing market conditions; improve supply chain efficiencies and value for the industry by delivering more timely information; and allow for better planning of promotions for the NMB marketing team. Although the system has been developed by the NMB, Importers and suppliers will need to participate voluntarily to ensure both efficiency and success. As this system will require information on the part of the participants that can be seen as sensitive, measures have already been taken to ensure confidentiality and security. The information provided by the participants will be preserved and protected by the NMB and will not be published, disclosed, or made available to the public. Those participants will be able to see the aggregate data, provided that at least three (3) will have provided data for the specific item. This inventory system has the potential to create a platform that will contribute to the unification of the mango industry through data homogeneity. Its proper use will also allow for more informed decision-making processes for all in the industry and certainly contributes to the per capita consumption increase of mango.
