EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF SHORT-TERM ANTICOAGULANT THERAPY IN CHILDREN WITH ACUTE VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLISM: A RANDOMIZED TRIAL
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of short-duration anticoagulant therapy (6 weeks and 3 months) in children and adolescents with acute venous thromboembolism (VTE) with provoking factors. Materials and methods. The study was conducted at the Ismailov Center for High Technology Medicine from February 1, 2022 to October 1, 2024. 22 patients under the age of 21 with confirmed acute VTE participated. The patients were randomly assigned to 6-week or 3-month anticoagulant therapy. Recurrence of VTE and clinically significant bleeding within one year were assessed. Results. In the 6-week therapy group, VTE recurrence was noted in 1 patient (0.65%), in the 3-month therapy group — in 3 patients (1.40%). The incidence of clinically significant bleeding was 0.65% in the 6-week group and 0.70% in the 3-month group. Conclusions. Short-duration anticoagulant therapy is effective and safe for children with VTE. The study supports an individualized approach to treatment in the pediatric population.
