Pregnancy Rate Following Different Types of Hysteroscopic Polypectomy in Iraqi Women with Subfertility

Background: According to the Histological Classification of Tumors Treaty of the World Health Organization, an endometrial polyp is defined as a benign nodular protrusion on the endometrial surface consisting of glands, stroma, and characteristic blood vessels. Objective: To assess the Pregnancy rate following different types of hysteroscopic polypectomy in Iraqi women with subfertility. Patients and method: A prospective study was conducted on 80 women complaining of subfertility, referred from Kamal Al-Samarrai Hospital for fertility and infertility to the gynecology outpatient clinic in Baghdad Teaching Hospital/Medical City, and some of them were referred to our hospital from private clinics. Others were referred from the infertility outpatient clinic in Baghdad Teaching Hospital for diagnostic hysteroscopy or both diagnostic laparoscopy and hysteroscopy after failed IUI or failed implantation in IVF cycles. Results: The mean age of women in the three groups was 28.1 ± 5.2, 28.3 ± 5.1 and 29.8 ± 4.3 years, respectively. Moreover, age group distribution showed no significant differences across the studied groups (P. value >0.05); after polypectomy, the positive pregnancy rate was (66.7%) in the resectoscope group compared to that in the scissor group (40%) and grasper group (36.7%). Conclusion: The positive pregnancy rate was significantly higher in the resectoscope group than in the scissor and grasper groups.
