IMPACTO DAS INTERNAÇÕES E ÓBITOS POR COLECISTITE E COLELITÍASE NA PARAÍBA: TENDÊNCIAS E COMPARAÇÃO COM O NORDESTE (2021-2024)
ABSTRACT Cholecystitis and cholelithiasis are prevalent biliary tract conditions associated with significant morbidity, mortality, and healthcare system burden. This study aimed to analyze mortality and hospitalizations due to these conditions in the Northeast region of Brazil between 2021 and 2024, with a focus on Paraíba, considering variables such as sex, age group, and race. The research utilized data from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), following rigorous methodological criteria to ensure data reliability. The findings indicated an increase in hospitalizations over the years, especially in the states of Bahia, Pernambuco, and Ceará. Mortality was more pronounced in individuals over 60 years old, with a higher incidence among women, corroborating evidence on hormonal factors as predisposing elements. Paraíba showed proportional mortality rates similar to the regional average, highlighting the need for improvements in early diagnosis and treatment. Differences among states reinforced the importance of public policies aimed at equitable access to healthcare services, as well as preventive strategies such as risk factor control and expanded access to minimally invasive procedures to reduce complications and improve clinical outcomes.
