TELEDENTISTRY IN BRAZIL: PROGRESS IN THE PROVISION OF DENTAL CARE

This study examines teledentistry in Brazil, focusing on its evolution, challenges, and opportunities within the national context. An integrative literature review was conducted using the PubMed, CAPES, and BVS databases, employing the following descriptors: "Teledentistry," "Telemedicine," "eHealth Policies," "Computer Communication Networks," and "Integrative Dentistry." A total of 31 studies published between 2000 and 2024 in Portuguese, English, and Spanish were included. The key findings indicate that, despite significant advancements, challenges persist, including digital inclusion, data security, and ethical concerns. Technical limitations, such as image quality and the necessity of direct patient contact, were also identified. However, digital innovations and improvements in equipment quality have facilitated access to dental care, particularly in remote areas. The study concludes that teledentistry holds significant potential to expand access to and enhance the efficiency of dental care in Brazil. However, sustained investment in public policies is essential to ensure security and technological inclusion. The study's limitations include ethical concerns, patient data security, and digital inclusion in the context of a developing country.
