Controlling the static quenching temperature to improve the corrosion resistance performance of Zr-based bulk metallic glass
• Static quenching method has been used to prepare the Zr 62.5 Cu 18.5 Fe 5 Al 10 Nb 4 BMG . • The corrosion resistance of BMG at different quenching temperatures is different. • The structure of BMG is different with different quenching temperature. • Increasing quenching temperature can improve the corrosion resistance. In this study, Zr 62.5 Cu 18.5 Fe 5 Al 10 Nb 4 bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) were prepared by static quenching at different temperatures. The results show that Zr 62.5 Cu 18.5 Fe 5 Al 10 Nb 4 BMGs prepared at high quenching temperature exhibit better corrosion resistance than those prepared at low quenching temperature. The structure of the Zr 62.5 Cu 18.5 Fe 5 Al 10 Nb 4 BMGs quenched at high temperature is amorphous, whereas the samples prepared at low quenching temperatures contain some nanocrystals. The correlation between the corrosion resistance and the underlying structure of the Zr 62.5 Cu 18.5 Fe 5 Al 10 Nb 4 BMGs at different quenching temperatures was studied, and the corrosion mechanism in a sodium chloride solution was analyzed.
