A Comparative Analysis of the Impact of Mental and Physical Disorders on Work Performance

This study explores the comparative impact of mental and physical disorders on work performance, focusing on cognitive functions, productivity, employee well-being, and team dynamics. Both types of disorders significantly affect employees, albeit in different ways. Mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD primarily impair cognitive abilities, emotional regulation, and interpersonal communication, leading to presenteeism, absenteeism, and reduced productivity. Physical disorders, including chronic pain and mobility impairments, affect physical stamina and task performance, contributing to absenteeism and limited work output. The research also examines how the co-occurrence of mental and physical disorders compounds these effects, making it more challenging for employees to maintain optimal performance. By utilizing a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and performance data, the study highlights the importance of supportive leadership and workplace accommodations in improving employee health and performance. The findings underscore the need for organizations to adopt a comprehensive approach to employee health, fostering a more inclusive and productive work environment.
