Periosteal Chondroma of Metatarsal Bone in an Elderly Male Patient: A Diagnostic Dilemma
Abstract Periosteal chondromas are rare benign cartilaginous tumors that are most commonly seen in children and young adults. They are usually present on the surface of long bones and predominantly involve the metaphyseal or diaphyseal regions. Their presentation in the metatarsal bone is exceptionally uncommon, leading to diagnostic challenges. Here, we report a case of periosteal chondroma in the first metatarsal bone of the left foot in a 73-year-old male patient. The clinical and radiological findings were not specific, and histopathological examination played a pivotal role in the final diagnosis of this uncommon benign tumor.
