Effect of TiC content on the microstructure and properties of Ni60A coatings produced by laser cladding

Due to the increasing demand for coating performance improvement, researching Ni60A coatings with high TiC content is of great theoretical and practical significance. In this paper, the microstructure, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of these coatings with different TiC content are described. An optimal TiC concentration of 20 wt.% can be uniformly integrated within the Ni60A coating, functioning as a wear-resistant matrix and significantly improving the frictional wear characteristics. Furthermore, optimal corrosion resistance is attained at a TiC content of 20 wt.%, characterised by a high corrosion potential and a low corrosion current density, which effectively reduces the permeation rate of Cl- ions in the electrolyte. The findings are important for advancing the technology associated with high TiC content coatings.
