CÂNCER COLORRETAL NO NORDESTE DO BRASIL: PANORAMA DA MORTALIDADE E IMPACTOS DE 2021 A 2024
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the leading causes of death worldwide, significantly impacting healthcare systems and patients’ quality of life. This study aimed to examine mortality caused by CRC in the Northeast region of Brazil from 2020 to 2024, considering variations across states, ages, genders, and racial groups. Data from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) were used, excluding incomplete records in accordance with ethical guidelines. The findings indicated that Bahia had the highest mortality rate in the region, while Paraíba showed an increase above the national average. The most affected population was individuals aged 70 or older, with a higher incidence of deaths among men and people of mixed race. The results emphasize the importance of preventive strategies, the expansion of screening programs, and improvements in hospital infrastructure to reduce CRC-related mortality in the area.
