Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease which causes inflammation and ulcers in the lining of colon and rectum which leads to the symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea and rectal bleeding. The exact cause behind ulcerative colitis is unknown however the causes are thought to be combination of genetic, environmental and immune factors. This disease causes a significant distress upon health related quality of life.
