KNOWLEDGE OF RADIATION SAFETY AMONG RADIOGRAPHERS

INTRODUCTION:-It is very important for the radiographer to be aware of radiation safety; it's not only for the patient but also for the radiographer himself because radiation is very harmful. The advent of medical imaging has revolutionized diagnostic and therapeutic practices in modern healthcare.Radiological procedures play a pivotal role in the early detection, diagnosis, and management of a wide array of medical conditions. However, the use of ionizing radiation in these procedures brings with it inherent risks, particularly radiation exposure to patients, healthcare workers, and the general public. As frontline practitioners in medical imaging, radiographers are directly involved in the acquisition of diagnostic images and are consequently at the forefront of radiation exposure risk management.Radiation safety is a cornerstone of radiologic practice. It encompasses a range of principles and protocols designed to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality. These principles are based on the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) concept, which emphasizes the need to reduce exposure to ionizing radiation without compromising diagnostic efficacy.Effective radiation protection requires a thorough understanding of radiation physics, biological effects of radiation, dose optimization strategies, protective equipment usage, and regulatory guidelines.
