Alterations in gut microbiota composition in young adults with relapsing- remitting multiple sclerosis

The gut microbiota functions as an independent organ, influencing bodily systems and disease development, though its role in multiple sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis remains unclear. This study evaluated gut microbiota composition in young individuals with relapsing-remitting MS (РРС) onset compared to healthyusing Statsoft Statistica 12, involved normality tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Wilk), Mann-Whitney U tests (p≤0.05). Results showed РРС patients had a significant predominance of Clostridium difficile and Propionibacterium spp., while Kingella spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were absent, distinguishing them from controls. РРС patients also exhibited higher fungal flora levels. Regarding the viral component, Herpes spp. concentrations were lower in РРС patients than in controls. The study identified differences in bacterial, fungal, and viral gut microbiota components between РРС patients and controls, highlighting the need for further research to define «key microbiota» and its role in MS pathogenesis. controls. It included 14 РРС patients and 14 healthy volunteers. Stool samples were analyzed using Osipov mass spectrometry to measure microbial markers, including fungi and viruses.
