Performance improvement of PEMFC by employing bionic flow channel

The coupling between water and heat in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) significantly affects cell performance, making it essential to investigate dynamic water transport. This study presents a localized tapered channel structure combined with a biomimetic wall design. The findings reveal that the tapered regions within the flow channels enhance both gas and liquid flow. Additionally, the biomimetic walls facilitate improved droplet dispersion, resulting in increased removal rates. Notably, the innovative flow channels reduce momentum loss by 1.56 % compared to traditional designs, thereby optimizing water flow behavior. This research contributes to enhancing the efficiency of fuel cells.
