ATENÇÃO PRIMÁRIA À SAÚDE E A ORGANIZAÇÃO EFICAZ DAS UBS: ESTRATÉGIAS PARA GARANTIR ASSISTÊNCIA DE QUALIDADE ÀS GESTANTES E PUÉRPERAS
The present work analyzes the organization of services in Basic Health Units for the care of pregnant women and new mothers, from the perspective of Primary Health Care principles. The research is based on the law and guidelines that govern the organization and functioning of the Unified Health System, with the understanding that accessibility, comprehensiveness, longitudinality, and coordination of care are fundamental elements in care during the pregnancy-puerperal period. The study reveals that only 15% of users receive adequate care considering quality parameters such as number of consultations, guidance, and general exams. In contrast, the implementation of Family Health Strategies showed promising results, with slightly better quality indicators, especially those related to the number of consultations, the period of entry, and the adequacy of care. The research identified five main weaknesses in the organization of services: inadequate infrastructure, with 57% of units evaluated as totally or partially inadequate; poor communication and integration between levels of care; underutilization/misuse of information systems; insufficient attention to women’s health in the puerperal period; and inadequate surveillance of health problems that arise during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, hypertensive syndromes, and mental disorders. From these weaknesses, the following needs emerge: improvement of infrastructure and equipment; strengthening the integration of service levels; continuous training of professionals; expansion of outreach activities such as groups and home visits; and development of specific protocols for the puerperal period.
