Ileocystoplasty in chinchilla rabbit bucks: A pilot study on Katamine-Xylazine Anaesthesia
Objective: This pilot study evaluates the anesthetic effects of ketamine-xylazine combination for ileocystoplasty in rabbits. Methods: Four chinchilla rabbits were divided into two groups. Group 1 underwent ileocystoplasty, while Group 2 served as controls. Anesthesia was induced with ketamine (45 mg/kg) and xylazine (5 mg/kg). Onset, duration, and recovery time were recorded, alongside physiological parameters (heart rate, respiratory rate, pulse, and temperature). Results: Anesthesia onset was rapid (3.35 ± 0.1 min, 3.34 ± 0.6 min), with a smooth surgical duration (75.93 min) and full recovery (129.41 min). Vital parameters significantly decreased post-induction but normalized within 72 hours. Conclusion: Ketamine-xylazine at tested doses provided stable anesthesia and smooth recovery for ileocystoplasty in rabbits. This protocol can guide future studies on optimizing anesthetic regimens.
