However, only a few scholars have noticed that behind the intertwined plots of six-day journey and past memories, there is another narrative undercurrent which has reversed the social gender between Stevens and Miss Kenton, forming a complementary double narrative progression. In excavating it, the theme, characterization as well as the aesthetic effect of this novel will be renewed.
