Esophagostomiasis of pigs and the effectiveness of therapeutic measures
Esophagostomiasis is widespread in the conditions of the pig breeding complex of Druzhba LLC in the Bryansk region. Oesophagostomum dentatum is most intensively affected by fattening young animals of 9–12 months of age, followed by pigs of 1.5 Corresponding author: 3 years of age, smaller piglets of 2 Corresponding author: 4 months of age. This is due to the fact that the fattening livestock uses walking grounds, where the invasive origin accumulates in huge numbers. The infection of adult piggies is facilitated by untimely manure harvesting, unsanitary conditions of detention, contamination of pathogens, care items and inventory. When studying aspects of pathogenesis, it was found that during the parasitization of esophagostom in the blood of piglets, the concentration of total protein, glucose, cholesterol, carotene decreases, but at the same time the activity of aminotransferases and urea increases. A decrease in the concentration of total protein indicates the depletion of plastic resources under the influence of helminth metabolites. Parasitization in the body by esophagostomes leads to a strain on the body’s energy resources. A low level of carotene indicates its increased consumption in metabolic transformations. An increase in the activity of ALT and AST enzymes indicates a violation of liver and intestinal function under the influence of adult and larval forms of esophagostomas. On the part of the immune system, the activity of T- and B-immunocompetent cells decreases, and factors of nonspecific humoral protection are activated. The clinical manifestation of esophagostomosis depends on the parasitization of larval or adult individuals by esophagostomes. Acute course (nodular form) it is characterized by a decrease in appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, fecal masses with an admixture of blood. Later, there is a refusal to feed, thirst, diarrhea. These clinical signs are the result of parasitization of larvae in the intestinal mucosa. Febtal granulate proved to be the most effective, anthelmintic freed 100 % of the fattening pig population from esophagostom.
