Successful conservative outpatient treatment of complicated punctured wound of the horse’s pelvic limb

The article presents a clinical case of successful conservative treatment of a complicated wound of the pelvic limb of a horse. The treatment was carried out in a stable. Against the background of systemic antibacterial therapy, regular rinsing of the wound canal and abscessed cavities with antiseptic solutions was performed to achieve maximum mechanical purification from detritus and purulent discharge. By day 42, complete wound healing was achieved with restoration of pelvic limb functionality. When developing an algorithm for the treatment of a complicated wound, it is necessary to take into account the clinical features of the course of the traumatic disease, the timing and stage of the pathological process, as well as to anticipate the pathomorphosis of suspected complications. The features of the course of the wound process in the presented case were combined damage to the muscles of the femoral region and the abdominal bone, abscessing of soft tissues as a result of primary infection, the formation of an intermuscular hematoma with its secondary suppuration, and the development of limited osteomyelitis with the formation of an external and internal fistula. The proposed method of lavage of the wound canal and abscessed cavities does not require the installation of fixed drains and flushing systems. The proposed tactics of treating wounds of the pelvic limb of a horse can be used on an outpatient basis.
