Epizootiological significance, pathogenicity and drug resistance of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius
Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (S. pseudintermedius) is a pathogen that causes and contributes to the development of a wide range of diseases in domestic animals, particularly dogs and cats. In recent years, this microorganism has attracted the attention of researchers due to the increasing resistance to antibiotics, which significantly complicates the treatment of infections and poses a serious threat to both animals and humans who are in close contact with infected animals. This article presents a review of current data on the epizootiology of S. pseudintermedius infections, its pathogenic factors, and mechanisms of multidrug resistance. The genetic variability of S. pseudintermedius, its ability to adapt, and the spread of resistant strains are discussed. The presented data underscore the need to develop new therapeutic strategies for the effective control of infections caused by S. pseudintermedius.
