¿Creer para casarse? El papel de la fe en la validez del matrimonio sacramental

This study examines the challenges posed by the increasing number of marriage requests within the Church from baptized individuals who have distanced themselves from the faith. It explores the legal implications of the theological relationship between faith and sacrament, particularly its impact on the validity of marriages contracted without faith, as well as on the preparation for and admission to canonical marriage. First, the study analyzes the principles established by the Church’s tradition and praxis in addressing these situations. Second, it investigates the influence of secularized culture on the understanding of canonical marriage and the role of faith in shaping sacramental matrimonial intent. This latter aspect is examined in light of the legislator’s directives and recent jurisprudential guidelines issued by the Roman Rota. Finally, the study considers the implications of these principles for matrimonial pastoral care, with a particular focus on the stages of preparation and admission to sacramental marriage.
