Excitation-emission matrices fluorescence spectroscopy for analysis of Bulgarian traditional wine varieties

Abstract Bulgaria is home to unique grape varieties, such as Mavrud, Broadleaved Melnik, Gamza, Red Misket, and Dimyat, which have been cultivated for thousands of years. Despite this rich history, traditional Bulgarian wines have not been the subject of extensive research. There is a growing need for a fast and cost-effective method to monitor these wines, in order to preserve Bulgaria’s viticultural traditions. To address this, more than 100 commercial samples of traditional Bulgarian wines have been collected and analysed using fluorescence spectroscopy with both benchtop and portable instruments. The results will be used for statistical analysis and eventually to create a database of Bulgarian wine varieties, which will serve as a valuable resource for researchers working to improve the quality and consistency of Bulgarian wines.
