A Novel Nickel(II) Porphyrin- Enhanced Glassy Carbon Electrode for High-Sensitivity Detection of Bisphenol A
Bisphenol A (BA), a widely used synthetic chemical in plastic production, is an endocrine-disrupting compound known to cause significant health and environmental harm. The urgent need for a simple and efficient technique to quantitatively monitor BA has led to the advancement of a novel electrochemical sensor. This sensor is based on nickel(II) meso-tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)porphyrin [Ni(TClPP)]-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Nickel porphyrin complexes show potential as electrochemical sensors due to their unique redox characteristics and structural features, enabling the detection of specific analytes in aqueous solutions. This capability positions them as valuable tools for environmental monitoring and analytical chemistry applications. To explore this potential further, we synthesized nickel(II) meso -tetrakis( p -chlorophenyl)porphyrin [Ni(TClPP)] and characterized it using UV–vis, 1 H NMR, and IR spectroscopy, as well as MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. After drop-coating [Ni(TClPP)] onto the GCE, the sensor’s performance was assessed via square wave voltammetry (SWV). It exhibited a linear response over an extensive concentration range (5 × 10 −9 M to 5 × 10 −4 M) with an exceptionally low detection limit of 5 × 10 −9 M. The [Ni(TClPP)]-GCE sensor demonstrated excellent selectivity and stability making it a strong candidate for BA detection in real sample.
