Obtaining the Linear Model of a Wind Farm using the Recursive Linearization
The electricity generation by means of renewable energy sources has experienced a great development in the few past decades. However, its inclusion may bring some consequences on the conventional electric power systems behavior. Therefore, it is of great importance to have adequate models that allow the evaluation of such effects. Particularly, the linear models are often used for stability analysis and for controller design. There exist many models and configurations that can be used in the wind farms; for the present research, doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG) are considered. In this work, for obtaining the linear representation of a power system with wind farms, the recursive linearization method is utilized; comparisons with other conventional linearization methods are also provided. The obtained model is applied for the IEEE 16-machine power system by substituting a synchronous generator with a wind park. The linear model is then used to assess the effect of the wind-turbine-based energy parks over the stability of the electromechanical dynamics: the electromechanical modes, the participation factors, and the spatiotemporal structures of the inter-area oscillation modes. Finally, the conclusions of the performed analyses, as well as possible future research that can raise from this work are also enlisted.
