Control and Management Design of Hybrid Energy Systems for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles

The fast advancement of the modern automotive makes an increasing number of vehicles, but the accompanying vehicle emissions have caused increasingly serious environmental problems. As a clean power source, fuel cells have received widespread attention from automobile manufacturers and the community. However, the difficulty of bi-directional flow of fuel cell energy and slow dynamic response severely restrict the improvement of vehicle performance. The study first analyses the operation process of fuel cell module and selects fuel cell/supercapacitor as a hybrid power energy machinery. Then an energy control tactics bottom on hybrid sag control is drawn, and finally the hybrid power system controlled by this method is simulated and tested. The outcomes demonstrate that under this energy control tactics, the super capacitor is capable of providing 18A of current in both normal and abnormal states and can effectively buffer the pulsating load. The system is able to reach a predetermined optimum value of 50% in both charging and discharging modes with high stability, extending the service life of the supercapacitor and providing a reference path for the management of fuel battery and motorcar powertrains.
