ETHNIC AND INTERNATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TRADITIONAL TYPES OF ARCHERY

Abstract. The article describes the issues of using terms that are present in various scientific segments (for example, Asian, European, and Ukrainian) to denote ethnic sports and ethnic motor activity. The place of traditional archery has been determined as an elemental component of it. Our own version of the interpretation of the term ‘ethnic sport’has been also proposed. The aim of the work is to substantiate the taxonomic model of archery, taking into account the conceptual features of national and international sports. Among the research methods, we have used a review and comparative analysis of scientific works of the literary databases Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science in the direction of folk and national sports and ethnic physical education in three scientific segments, i.e. Ukrainian, Asian and European, taking into account the specifics of the terms used in them. Research results. In the course of the research, we have clarified the cluster classification of types of archery. After analyzing the literature, it has been proposed to use the generalized concept of ‘ethnic sport’ and ‘ethnic motor activity’ to resolve terminological differences. Moreover, a classification scheme of the components of ethnic motor activity and ethnic sports has been developed using the example of traditional archery. Conclusions. It has been established that the concept of traditional sports in the Asian, European, and Ukrainian models has common and distinctive features. Ukrainian and European scientists distinguish terms that are used only in motor activity (folk physical education in the Ukrainian segment and traditional games in European works) and those that characterize only sports (national sport and ethnic sport, traditional sports, respectively). In the Chinese segment, a single concept is used for all, i.e. national traditional sports. The cluster classification of archery has been clarified. It has been found that traditional archery as a sport and motor activity is of great importance for the ethnic (national) and international movement of physical education. There are many types, forms, and manifestations of traditional archery that are popular all over the world. A scheme of ethnic and international sports has been also proposed using the example of archery.
