Thyroid status in novel coronavirus infection in family medicine
The article discusses thyroid dysfunction in patients with COVID-19 and post-COVID syndrome and examines the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the endocrine system, in particular thyroid cells that are subject to destruction and cytokine exposure. The features of symptoms, diagnosis, and course of these disorders are analyzed. The article describes in detail the role of ACE2 and TMPRSS2 receptors in the penetration of the virus into the body, as well as the effects of the cytokine storm on the immune system. The influence of possible risk factors on the development of endocrine disorders in patients with COVID-19 and post-COVID syndrome is discussed.
