Demonstrations in support of Palestine in the Republic of Korea 2023-2024: context and reactions

This paper examines the causes and background of pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the Republic of Korea and the public reaction to them. It explores the diplomatic relations of the two Koreas with various Middle Eastern countries, focusing on the DPRK's partnership with Palestine and the active development of ties between the Republic of Korea and Israel. The study analyzes the reactions of the Korean Peninsula countries to the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on 7 October 2023 and examines protests in support of Palestine in South Korea during 2023–2024. The author concludes that these pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the Republic of Korea were few in number, especially compared to rallies in Europe, and were mostly peaceful, forming part of the global movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
