Rehabilitation Of Amputated Thumb With Customized Fingertip And Incorporating Metal Mesh Using Silicone Material- A Novel Case Report
The intricate coordination of fingers and thumbs is essential for daily activities, yet hand deformities can arise from congenital anomalies, traumatic injuries, or inflammatory conditions, with accidental trauma being a predominant cause. These deformities not only disrupt socioeconomic functioning but also induce significant psychological distress. Although microsurgical interventions provide advanced reconstructive solutions, they are often costly and require surgical procedures, which may not be suitable for all patients due to medical contraindications. In such instances, prosthetic rehabilitation emerges as a crucial alternative, focusing on aesthetic enhancement and psychological well-being. This clinical case report presents a novel approach for the reconstruction of an amputated thumb using a silicone prosthesis, emphasizing the integration of artistic skill, scientific knowledge, and patient collaboration to restore both functionality and self-esteem.
