Extended surgical scope in the treatment of complicated eyeball injury: penetrating scleral injury with multiple foreign bodies, traumatic cataract and hemophthalmos

Eye injuries are a complex problem both for the individual health of patients and for the public health system at the global level. Timely provision of high-tech medical care can reduce the rehabilitation period, reduce the risk of severe complications leading to organ loss and disability of working-age patients. Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of an extended surgical volume in the treatment of complicated eyeball injury. Material and methods. Clinical case. Patient Ch., 23 years old, complained of decreased vision in the left eye 8 hours after the injury. Taking into account the complaints, anamnesis, objective examination data, diagnosis, a collegial decision was made to carry out a one-stage comprehensive surgical treatment for the purpose of social rehabilitation. Conclusion. High-tech and highly specialized medical care for patients with penetrating eyeball injury should be provided simultaneously in the maximum surgical volume and in the early stages, which allows for a high functional and anatomical result, accelerated recovery and avoid possible complications. Keywords: penetrating injury of the eyeball, intraocular foreign body, vitreoretinal surgery
