Retinal autotransplantation as a treatment method for giant macular rupture: a clinical case
Objective. Demonstration of a clinical case of successful retinal autotransplantation in a patient with a giant macular tear. Material and methods. A 62 years old patient in August 2024 went to the Izmailovsky Medical Center, where an ophthalmologist revealed a dysfunction in her perception of shapes and scotomas, which led to a decrease in visual acuity to 0.05. Ophthalmoscopy revealed a rounded retinal defect. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed a giant macular tear measuring 929 microns. The diagnosis was made: stage 4 giant macular rupture. In November, the patient was admitted to the N.I. Pirogov National Ophthalmology Center for Retinal autotransplantation, which was successful. Results. The use of retinal autotransplantation techniques in the presence of a giant macular tear ensured its complete closure. Conclusions. The presented technique demonstrates high efficiency in the treatment of giant macular tears, contributing to a significant improvement in both anatomical and functional parameters.
