Effect of Leucas aspera Extract on Ethanol-induced Alcoholic Liver Injury in Zebrafish Larvae
Introduction: Alcoholic liver disease encompasses a variety of liver unusual occurrences, starting with rare cases of alcoholic steatosis, which eventually led to the development in addition to cirrhosis, and steatohepatitis. Natural products are suitable candidates for the treatment of ALD. Background: Since, Leucas aspera has a high concentration of antioxidants, including flavonoids and phenolic compounds, it has been investigated for its ability to counteract oxidative stress. In this work, we sought to understand the role that Leucas aspera plays in alcohol-related incidents as well as the molecular processes by which it regulates zebrafish larvae can manage their liver and their whole body after being exposed to 2% ethanol for 32 hours. Leucas aspera was extracted using ethanol and phytochemicals were analyzed quantitatively. The toxicity of Leucas aspera was analyzed using zebrafish embryos. Method: The wild-type zebrafish larvae were utilized to create an alcoholic fatty liver model at around 4 days post-fertilization to assess the impact of Leucas aspera therapy. Leucas aspera dramatically decreased the morphological abnormalities associated with alcohol consumption in zebrafish larvae. The presence of lipid droplets in the liver was identified using the oil red O staining method. Results: The results of this research demonstrated that Leucas aspera balanced alcohol and lipid metabolism, and inhibited zebrafish larvae';s liver damage and steatosis caused by alcohol. Conclusion: the study';s findings point to Leucas aspera';s potential for future development as a therapy for liver illnesses, particularly those associated with alcohol-induced damage, and validate its traditional usage in herbal medicine.
