The Performance Evaluation of Vehicle Longitudinal and Lateral Dynamics Parameters and Behaviour using Matlab-Simulink and RoadRunner

Vehicle dynamics is a field within automotive engineering that focuses on understanding and predicting the motion of vehicles under various conditions. Vehicle dynamics models serve as virtual prototypes, allowing us to simulate and analyze the effects of design parameters on vehicle behavior without the need for extensive physical testing. This paper presents the modelling and simulation of longitudinal and lateral dynamics of vehicles using simulation tools MATLAB/Simulink and RoadRunner as per standards. The vehicle modelling and simulation are carried out using Vehicle Dynamics Blockset in MATLAB/Simulink. Additionally, the modelling of 3D test tracks is done in the RoadRunner tool to facilitate the virtual testing environment for the vehicle's dynamics. Simulation results are validated against mathematically calculated design values, highlighting the model's accuracy. The study emphasizes the importance of simulation tools in validating vehicle performance, paving the way for advanced developments in vehicle dynamics modelling. Keywords: Vehicle Dynamics Simulation, Virtual Testing, Longitudinal and Lateral Dynamics
