Data Driven Parametric Study on Vehicle Maneuverability
Maneuverability is an important characteristic when selecting a car in the Indian market. Indian traffic is characterized by increased concentration of cars, narrow streets, and almost permanent traffic jams in the cities. Consequently, if a car can boast superior maneuverability, it will be more convenient to use, with the possibility of making sharp turns and using available space more effectively. As a result, the driving experience will be enhanced. This paper aims at discussing the utilization of vehicle dynamics test data to analyze a set of maneuverability parameters as well as to present a methodology to benchmark these parameters using detail charts. It consists of using vehicle dynamics test data from various vehicles with different classes and manufacturers. Through detailed analysis and comparison, factors that influence agility and maneuverability are identified. It can help to establish several performance and vehicle-level targets. It is possible to compare the target vehicle’s level of performance to other vehicles on the charts to determine possible inefficiencies. Therefore, the analysis can help to improve the design of the vehicle. To sum up, the paper considers a methodology to analyze and benchmark parameters of maneuverability based on vehicle dynamics test data.
