Substituted Pyridinium N‐Chloramines: Chemical Synthesis and Antibacterial Application
Abstract In this work, synthesis on pyridinium N ‐chloramines based on substituted pyridine was explored and three series of N ‐chloramines were prepared. Preliminary antibacterial tests showed that electron‐donating (ED) group substituted pyridinium N ‐chloramines (e.g., 17 – 19 ) exerted the most efficacious antibacterial activity in contrast with electron‐withdrawing (EW) group or alkyl group substituted counterparts. In addition, para‐substitued pyridinium N ‐chloramines ( 11 , 17, and 19) with symmetric cationic moiety comparatively demonstrated even superior biocidal efficacy. Our study provided highly efficacious N ‐chloramine biocides, offering valuable references to design new biocides with even more powerful antibacterial potency.
