Optimization of Wind Turbine FRT Strategy under LCC-HVDC Commutation Failure
The wind resources and main power consumption are unevenly distributed in China. The wind farm integration through line-commuted converter high voltage direct current (LCC-HVDC) system is a commonly adopted approach for long-distance and large-scale power transmission. However, the commutation failure (CF) of LCC-HVDC system at receiving end may cause the sending end AC voltage to initially fall and then rise. This will cause the wind turbine to first enter low voltage ride-through (LVRT) and then high voltage ride-through (HVRT), thereby affecting the stability of the sending end power system. This paper proposes a fault ride-through (FRT) strategy for wind turbine integrated through LCC-HVDC system to improve the active power balance of the sending end during the CF at receiving end.
