Control Strategy of Grid-Forming VSG Based on Adaptive Inertia and Damping
The large-scale integration of renewable energy into the grid leads to a decrease in the inertia of the power system and a gradual deterioration in stability. Virtual synchronous generators (VSGs) have inertia and damping characteristics, but their transient performance is poor. By using the constructed small-signal model of VSGs, the impact of rotational inertia and damping on frequency and output power during the transient process is analyzed. Combining the characteristics of the power angle of synchronous generators and the frequency variation curve, the principles and specific requirements for the dynamic adjustment of rotational inertia and damping are summarized, and an adaptive VSG control strategy based on inertia and damping is proposed. Experimental results show that the control strategy can effectively reduce the overshoot of power and frequency, and improve the response speed and stability of the system.
