Revitalizing Traditional Indian Games in Contemporary Education: A Cultural and Holistic Paradigm
This conceptual paper examines into the educational potential of traditional Indian games within the framework of 21st-century learning, emphasizing their role in holistic cognitive, social, and emotional development. Rooted in India's rich cultural heritage, these games serve as instruments for character education and cultural transmission, aligning with educational theories such as Piaget's cognitive development theory, Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, and Gardner's multiple intelligences. By examining cross-cultural applications and integrating recent empirical findings, which include quantitative research on specific learning outcomes, the paper highlights the universal benefits of traditional games. It draws parallels with educational practices in other regions and addresses the challenges and opportunities of integrating these games into modern curricula, focusing on digital adaptations that maintain cultural integrity while engaging digitally native students. The findings advocate for a balanced curriculum incorporating traditional games to support culturally rich and inclusive education that meets contemporary educational standards. Further empirical research is recommended to validate these insights and measure the long-term educational impacts of traditional games within structured academic environments.
